Proverbs 4:20-27
"20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil."
Here's a verse-by-verse breakdown of these scriptures. It's a great example of how to use the recipe for joy on this Earth that God has given us. There's nothing hard about it.
Starting off: Verse 20 tells us we must keep God's Word in our ear. How do you keep God's Word in your ear? Say it. When you say what The Word says, you hear yourself saying it; the more you say it, the stronger it becomes to you; the stronger it becomes to you, the easier it is for you to believe what it is saying.
Then Verse 21 tells us to keep God's Word in our eyes. How? Spend time looking at the Word of God. As you look and hear, your soulish realm is receiving and your thinking will improve. Keep God's Word always in the midst of your heart. I believe the word "heart" (in this situation) is talking about your mind, will, and emotions (soulish realm). Always keep God's Word in front of your eyes and in the midst of our mind, will, and emotions.
Verse 22 explains that God has given us this recipe (The Word) to live in peace, joy, and rest in this earth. That recipe is perfect if we keep our ears, eyes, and mouth speaking the Word (Jesus). God wants us to enjoy everything on The Earth. True enjoyment comes through true relationship. As in Verse 25-27, just keep moving straight ahead. Do not turn to the left or to the right. God has already set the path for you - just follow it by renewing your mind by keeping to his recipe.
Verse 23 is instructing us to keep (protect) our spirit (heart here refers to your spirit). Life, for a Christian, flows from our spirit. God has given us authority to protect our spirit, soul, and body.
Verse 24 tells us to keep a clean and straight mouth. Proverbs 16:23 tells us the heart (spirit) of the wise teaches his mouth (what to say) and Proverbs 18:20 tells us a man will be satisfied from the fruit (wise words) of his mouth. So let your spirit teach your mouth what to say and you will be satisfied with what you say. The wisest word you can speak is God's Word. Keep speaking and talking about The Word.
